Peter H.M. Lau on AI and Data Systems Management Scholarship

On the Donor

In 2011, Mr. Peter H.M. Lau, an alumnus (graduated from BSc(Eng) in Industrial Engineering in 1978) of the Department of Data and Systems Engineering made a donation to establish the “Peter H.M. Lau Penultimate Year Scholarship” and “Peter H.M. Lau Project Award”.

Apart from the “Peter H.M. Lau Penultimate Year Scholarship” and “Peter H.M. Lau Project Award”, Mr. Lau also supported “Quali-Smart Globalization Scholarship”, through Quali-Smart Holdings Limited, established in 2014. At the donor’s request, this has been funded by the Peter H.M. Lau Fund since 2019-20. In 2025, Mr. Lau further pledged a donation to the Fund, and the Scholarship was renamed “Peter H.M. Lau on AI and Data Systems Management” to encourage students to apply AI and Data Systems in their project.

Purpose and Scope

Up to five scholarships shall be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate

students who plan to undergo their internship training (IMSE3129 /IMSE3229)

in the Chinese mainland or overseas2.

3. The Scholarship shall be of the value of HK$20,000 each. The first

installment of the Scholarship shall be HK$15,000 and this shall be paid upon

the award confirmation while the remaining balance of HK$5,000 shall be

made upon completion of a training report and a presentation to the Selection

Panel.

4. Preference shall be given to students who are Hong Kong permanent residents

seeking working experience in the Chinese Mainland.

5. Applicants are required to submit the proposed Internship of Work Experience

programme/schedule and related supporting documents as part of their

applications.

Up to three scholarships shall be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students from Year 1 to Year 4 who demonstrate outstanding performance in individual projects that apply AI and Data Systems Management in one of the following courses DASE2144, DASE4139, or DASE4140.

The value of each scholarship shall be in the range of HK$30,000 to HK$50,000. The number of awards and exact value of each award shall be determined by the Selection Committee.

Applicants are required to submit their project reports as the supporting documentation to demonstrate the application of AI and Data Systems Management.
