HKUGA Journalism Scholarship

On the Donor

At the 32nd Anniversary Dinner of the Hong Kong University Graduates Association (HKUGA) on June 21, 2008, Mr. Ching Cheong, noted journalist and HKU alumnus, in association with Mr. Man Cheuk Fei, President of the HKUGA, announced that Mr. Ching would donate a sum to HKU for the purpose of creating the HKUGA Journalism Scholarship Fund. Following the announcement, donations from HKUGA members and friends have been received in support of the Fund. The investment income generated each year from the Fund shall support the Scholarship.

Purpose and Scope

The HKUGA Journalism Scholarship shall provide the following scholarships.

  • Scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are pursuing study programmes offered by the School of Future Media (SFM) at The University of Hong Kong. 
  • Scholarships to SFM students who have been selected to partake in overseas training programmes (including the SFM exchange programme) or conferences that broaden their perspectives on the ever-chaning media landscape, or unpaid internship in Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland or overseas.

The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit; financial need will be considered when candidates are of equal merit. The total number and the value of each scholarship shall be determined by the Selection Committee based on the fund available. In any event, the value of each scholarship shall range between HK$10,000 and HK$200,000.
