Holman Fenwick Willan Scholarship for Student Exchange

On the Donor

In 2001, Holman Fenwick Willan (the “Donor”) donated an annual academic scholarship to the Faculty of Law (the “Faculty”) of The University of Hong Kong (the “University”), aiming to recognise undergraduate law students’ outstanding academic performance and to encourage and support them to participate in outgoing student exchange programmes organised by the University or the Faculty (the “exchange programmes”). In 2007, the Donor agreed to extend the award to cover eligible law students of the double-degree programmes.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall support undergraduate law students from any of the following degree programmes to take part in the exchange programmes (one semester):

  1. Bachelor of Laws (LLB);
  2. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (BA&LLB);
  3. Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) and Bachelor of Laws (BBA(Law)&LLB);
  4. Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws (BSc&LLB); and
  5. Bachelor of Social Sciences (Government and Laws) and Bachelor of Laws (BSocSc(Govt&Laws)&LLB).

One scholarship shall be awarded each year, on the basis of academic merit (attain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 as of the first semester of the award year) and the proposed activity, to an undergraduate law student who intends to participate in a one-semester exchange programme at an offshore university (partnered with the University or the Faculty) in the academic year following the award year. English proficiency, personal qualities (e.g., enthusiasm, initiative, ability to adapt to change) and records of extra-curricular activities or service to students, institutions and the community, shall also be taken into consideration.

The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other merit-based enrichment scholarships administered by the University for the same activity. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with non-merit-based financial aids.
