Established in 1998, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships are dedicated to nurturing talent for Hong Kong. Over the past twenty years, more than 900 young people have been awarded the scholarships to pursue their studies.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Undergraduate Scholarship aims to recognise outstanding students for their intellect, character, leadership qualities and commitment to service. Under the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships – Undergraduate Scholarship scheme, up to three scholarships are awarded to local students from HKU each year effective August 2023.
From the 2025-26 cohort, “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Undergraduate Scholarship” will be renamed as “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Compassionate Leader Scholarship”.
The Scholarship usually opens for applications in Semester 1 each year. It is open to full-time local Year 1 students who are studying their first undergraduate degree at Hong Kong’s eight University Grants Committee (“UGC”)-funded institutions and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Up to 27 scholarships will be awarded for each cohort. Scholars are selected according to their merits and attributes in the following aspects: (i) intellect, (ii) character, (iiii) leadership qualities, and (iv) commitment to service.
The Scholarship covers full tuition fee, academic and living allowance for the normative period of study of the enrolled undergraduate programme, subject to satisfactory academic performance and participation in community services. It also offers overseas learning subsidies and an opportunity to participate in the HKJCoverseas leadership programme.
(Note: The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship cannot be concurrently held with any other scholarships or awards that subsidise the awardee's local tuition fees, academic expenses and living expenses.)
Please study the scholarship regulations for details on eligibility, GPA requirements, renewal conditions, concurrent awards, etc.
