In 1980, Dr. Stephen S.F. Hui donated a sum to establish the Hui Yin Hing Scholarship and Fellowship Trust Fund for the promotion of studies in Geology and Earth Sciences by undergraduates and graduates of The University of Hong Kong. This Fund was increased by a second donation by Dr. Hui in 1985.
Five scholarships shall be awarded each year as follows:
a) one award to a fourth-year undergraduate in the Department of Geography who is majoring in Geography and has achieved the best results in geology and/or related physical geography courses;
b) two awards to undergraduates in the Department of Civil Engineering who have completed their third year and have achieved the best results in discipline core courses related to geotechnical engineering, although results in other courses shall also be taken into consideration; and
c) two awards to undergraduates in the Faculty of Science majoring in Geology or Geology (Intensive) or Earth System Science who have completed their second year and have achieved the best results in the second-year examinations.
