SFM Overseas Talent Scholarship

Commencing in the academic year 2009-2010, scholarships shall be awarded to overseas journalists or students, to fully or partially support their studies in the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) at The University of Hong Kong through the JMSC Overseas Talent Scholarship. The Scholarship shall be funded by the income of the taught postgraduate programmes. With the establishment of the School of Future Media in October 2025, the Scholarship is renamed to “SFM Overseas Talent Scholarship”.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded to the overseas students who:

• wish to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at the School of Future Media;
• are non-Hong Kong residents;
• have maintained consistently good performance in the news industry and/or in academic results; and
• have enthusiasm towards journalism and aspire to pursue a career in journalism.

The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic or professional merit; financial need shall be considered when candidates are of equal merit. The Scholarship awarded to each awardee shall support fully or partially his/her tuition fee and/or living allowance of the awarding year. The total number of award and the value of each award presented each year shall be determined by the Selection Committee based on the fund available. In any event, the value of each scholarship shall range between HK$10,000 and HK$200,000.
