Fung Scholarships, The

On the Donor

Fung (1906) Foundation Limited agrees to make a donation during 2006 to The University of Hong Kong to establish an endowment fund to provide scholarships for annual award to undergraduate students of the University who wish to participate in exchange programmes at overseas universities in Asia, Australia, Europe or North America for up to one year with a view to enriching their understanding of their chosen field to study and achieving greater exposure to different cultures and environments.

In 2008, the Fung Scholarship Programme is transferred to Victor and William Fung Foundation Ltd., a charity funded personally by Dr. Victor Fung and Dr. William Fung, the Group Chairman and Group Deputy Chairman of the Fung Group.

The mission of the Foundation is to promote leadership development through scholarships, fellowships and educational programmes, in partnership with universities and thought leadership, through research and innovation, with think tanks and tertiary education institutions.

Purpose and Scope

The scholarships shall be awarded to full-time undergraduates in any year of study (except final-year students) in any discipline who have permanent resident status in HK. The Scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and leadership potential. The value of award shall depend on the income generated from the endowment fund and the countries in which the awardees will undertake their studies as exchange students.
