On the Donor

In 1958, Mr. Li Po-Kwai, the respected Chinese business and community leader, donated 
HK$20,000 to establish a Scholarship at the University of Hong Kong. Mr. Li was the one of 
the founding members of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and the Confucian 
Society, he headed the movement for opening free schools for the Hong Kong society.

Purpose and Scope

Up to four scholarships shall be awarded each year to BSc students who are studying in 
Year 2 or above. Preference will be given to students who intend to major in Physics. 
Since the Scholarship is not intended primarily for the academically brilliant who show 
no interest in anything but book studies, the Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis 
of academic merit, leadership and interest in extra-curricular activities.

Note:
  • Applications are usually accepted in Semester One of each academic year.
  • Applications for the 2023-24 Scholarship will open in late August 2023 and close in late September 2023. For details, please refer to 2023-24 General Round Scholarship Applications. Results are expected to be available around May/June 2024.
