Peter Vine Postgraduate Law Scholarship

On the Donor

The Peter Vine Charitable Foundation has agreed to donate the annual sum to provide scholarships, in memory of the lateĀ Dr Peter Vine (HonLLD 1986), for (i) outstanding law graduates of the Faculty of Law to undertake one year of full-time study overseas for the degree of Master of Laws or its equivalent, and (ii) outstanding law graduates from universities in PRC admitted to one-year full-time study at HKU in the Master of Common Law Programme (MCL).

Purpose and Scope

Up to five scholarships shall be awarded annually to the two groups of students:

(i) up to three scholarships shall be awarded to HKU law graduates undertaking one year of full-time study overseas for the degree of Master of Laws or the equivalent, and
(ii) up to two scholarships shall be awarded to law graduates from universities in PRC admitted to MCL.

The scholarships for (i) shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit to students who have obtained the degree of Bachelor of Laws or double degrees in law at HKU, with at least Second Class Honours. Applicant shall be required to submit a written application setting out full details of their secondary and tertiary education, a description of the overseas course applied for, an explanation of the benefits which the candidate intends to gain from the course, and an undertaking that he/she intends to work in Hong Kong.

The scholarships for (ii) shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit to students who have obtained a law degree from a university in PRC. Financial need and interview performance shall also be taken into account. The award shall be confirmed on the condition that the nominated applicant(s) shall achieve an overall CGPA 3.00 in the first semester of MCL.
