Y.K. Cheung Scholarships, Professor

On the Donor

In 1995, the Organizing Committees of the International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering and the Y.K. Cheung Symposium donated the credit balance for the establishment of the Scholarship to support the students studying Civil Engineering.

In 1997, Professor C.F. Lee of the Department of Civil and Structural 
Engineering donated a sum of HK$95,000 to supplement the capital fund. Professor Y.K. 
Cheung also made donations to the fund from time to time. In 2003, the value of each of the 
scholarship was revised to HK$16,000 with effect from the academic year 2003-04.

In 2023, friends and family of the late Professor Y.K. Cheung donated an additional sum to the fund to provide additional awards for student enrichment. The primary objective is to enable students of the Department of Civil Engineering to take part in learning activities overseas or in Mainland China such as, but not limited to, academic exchange, internship, service learning, training, academic conference, field trip or field work for research.

Purpose and Scope

Two scholarships shall be awarded each year to students in their second/third year of study 
for the degree of B.Eng. in Civil Engineering who scored high marks in their examinations. 

For the Academic Scholarship, two scholarships, at the value of HK$16,000 each, shall be awarded each year to undergraduate students in their second/third year of study in the Department of Civil Engineering who scored high marks in their examinations. 

For the Enrichment Scholarship, up to 3 scholarships ranging from HK$10,000 to HK$50,000 each, shall be awarded to undergraduate students of the Department of Civil Engineering who take part in learning activities overseas or in Mainland China approved by the Department, on the basis of academic merit, with Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The exact value of the scholarship shall be determined based on academic merit and availability of funding. The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other merit-based enrichment scholarships administered by the University for the same activity. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with non-merit-based financial aids.
