The descendants of the late Mr Shum Wai-Yau donated a sum to the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) of The University of Hong Kong to establish the “Shum Wai Yau Journalism Education Fund” (岑維休新聞教育基金) to support further education of future journalists and media professionals.
In 2024, a donation was received from the estate of Mrs. Lee Shum Shuk Yuen for the “Shum Wai Yau Journalism Education Fund”. The investment income generated each year from the Fund will go towards the Scholarship.
The Scholarship shall be primarily awarded to Hong Kong residents who are pursuing study programmes offered by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre at The University of Hong Kong, including undergraduate and/or postgraduate student(s).
The Scholarship shall also be awarded to non-Hong Kong residents within the Selection Committee's discretion.
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic or professional merit; financial need will be considered when candidates are of equal merit.
