The descendants of the Late Mr Shum Wai-Yau have donated a sum to the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) of The University of Hong Kong to further the education of future journalists and media professionals.
The entire sum of the contribution will be used to create an endowment fund to be named the "Shum Wai Yau Journalism Education Fund" to benefit HKU students in perpetuity.
The scholarship shall be primarily awarded to Hong Kong residents who are pursuing study programmes (i.e. Bachelor of Journalism, Master of Journalism and Postgraduate Diploma of Journalism) offered by JMSC, including undergraduate and/or postgraduate student(s).
The scholarship shall also be awarded to non Hong Kong residents within the Selection Committee's discretion.
The Fund(s) shall be awarded on the basis of academic or professional merit; financial need will be considered when candidates are of equal merit.
