Woo Po Shing Overseas Summer School Travelling Scholarship

On the Donor

In 1983, Mr Woo Po Shing (“the Donor”) donated an initial sum to The University of Hong Kong to setup a scholarship with the aim to support undergraduate law students of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme organised by the Faculty of Law (“the Faculty”) to join overseas summer school programmes in non-Law subjects. In 2025, in view of the rising costs of school fees and related expenses, the Donor and the Faculty have agreed to free up the capital fund so as to increase the value of the award.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall support LLB students of the Faculty to take part in summer school programmes in any subjects other than Law at overseas Universities.

One scholarship shall be awarded each year to a LLB student on the basis of academic merit and the proposal to follow a summer school programme in any subject other than Law at an overseas University, which should be the most enterprising and broadly educational. In the event of two or more applicants submitting proposals of equal merit, the financial need of the applicants and the likelihood of their being able to travel abroad without financial assistance shall be taken into consideration.

The Scholarship shall be of the value of at least HK$10,000 and up to HK$25,000 each. The exact value of the Scholarship shall be decided on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other merit-based enrichment scholarships administered by the University for the same activity. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with non-merit-based financial aids.
