In 2002, The Chan Ho Family Scholarship was established at HKU to support graduates of Chong Gene Hang College who have strong academic potential but have limited financial resources.
The Donor, who wished to remain anonymous, was inspired by Mr & Mrs Chong Gene Hang (張振興伉儷), the founders of his alma mater, the Chong Gene Hang College.
The Chong’s couple spent their lives working hard on laundry business outside of Hong Kong. It was Mrs Chong’s last wish to devote their life savings to establish a secondary school where future generations would be given an education, which the couple themselves had not been privileged to receive.
Their act motivated their school graduates who hoped to support younger schoolmates to pursue tertiary education. The Scholarship was also dedicated to the Donor’s beloved parents.
The Scholarship shall be awarded to a graduate of Chong Gene Hang College who:
(a) has been admitted into the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree programme and has enrolled at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) or The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK);
