On the Donor
In January 2012, Mr Zhang Xianglin (張祥林先生) generously pledged a donation in support of the establishment of the Huacheng Chinese Culture Scholarships (華城中華文化慈善教育獎學金).
Purpose and Scope
The Scholarships shall be awarded as:
i. entrance scholarships to talented students admitted to the University to pursue undergraduate studies at:
- The Faculty of Arts
- The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Economics
ii. bursaries through the “First-in-the-Family Education Fund” to support needy students at the Faculty of Arts by encouraging them to take part in learning activities outside the classroom
The Scholarship shall be awarded to candidates on the basis of academic merit:
- For local candidates admitted through JUPAS: their achievements in the prevailing local public examinations such as the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE);
- For local candidates admitted through non-JUPAS: their achievements in international qualification examinations such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma or GCE A-levels; and
- For non-local candidates: their achievements in international or national qualifications.
The value of awards for (i) and (ii) will be in the range of HK$20,000 to HK$40,000, and for (iii) in the range of HK$40,000 to HK$160,000. The exact value of the awards shall be determined on the basis of academic strength.
