In 2011, Dr Sin Wai-Kin made a donation to the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences to support its academic activities relevant to Asian and Chinese studies. With the generous support from Dr Sin, the Sin Wai-Kin Junior Fellowship shall be established and awarded from the academic year 2012-13.
The Fellowship shall be awarded annually to one full-time PhD student in the University and the value will be HK$80,000 per year (subject to review annually).
The Fellowship shall be awarded on the basis of (i) academic merits; (ii) research proposal which must be endorsed by the candidates' supervisors; and (iii) relevance of the candidates' research field to any one of the themes:
- medicine, technology and humanities in East Asia
- business and humanities in Asia
- Chinese charities
The Fellowship shall be awarded irrespective of race or nationality. Preference shall be given to candidates whose domicile is Hong Kong. Where the best candidates are of equal merit, the Fellowship shall be shared equally by the candidates.
