Francis Lau Enrichment Scholarships for Medical Students

In November 2012, Professor Francis Lau Shiu Kwan generously donated to the "Turn $1 to Five" for Centenary Scholarship Fund to support the learning initiatives of medical students at the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Medical Faculty) to align with the new features of the “130 MBBS curriculum”. The scope of support was expanded in 2018 to assist needy students with their accommodation and further enhanced in 2024 to include enrichment grant for short-term learning activities.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded to MBBS students to support their participation in learning and research programmes outside of Hong Kong that are duly approved by the Medical Faculty. Activities may include but are not limited to academic exchanges, intercalation studies, research attachments, humanitarian work and/or any other experiential teaching and learning activities. 

The value of each scholarship shall be in the range of HK$10,000 to HK$50,000. The number of scholarships and exact value of each scholarship shall be determined by a Selection Committee based on the academic merit, activity duration and location, and financial need.
