Evergreen Scholarships for Arts Students

On the Donor

Mr Lam Sum-Chee (林森池), a History alumnus (BA 1967), has supported HKU students pursuing studies in the Arts and History for many years.

As a boy coming from a grassroots family in Tung Tau Estate, Mr Lam's life completely changed when he was admitted to HKU in the 60s and was able to finish his studies thanks to the full bursary he received from the University. After graduation, Mr Lam achieved a high level of success as one of the first generation of financial analysts in Hong Kong and hopes to encourage younger generations to develop their full potential during their years at university by instilling in them a sense of vision and a feeling of responsibility for the community.

In 2012, in response to the “Turn $1 to Five Campaign”, Mr Lam amalgamated his previously-established scholarships as the “Evergreen Scholarships and Bursaries” (Evergreen) through a permanent endowment at HKU. Evergreen will support arts and humanities students through four directions, namely “Evergreen Scholarships for History Students”, “Evergreen Scholarships for Arts Students”, “Evergreen Scholarships for Student Enrichment” and ”Evergreen Bursaries”.
