In 2005, Professor Saw Swee Hock, founding Professor of Statistics of the University from 1969 to 1971, donated a capital sum to set up a scholarship at the University in recognition of the academic achievement of B.Sc. graduates whose first majors are in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
Professor Saw is a leading expert on statistical demography, statistical finance and financial economics. He holds a BA (1957) and MA (1960) from the University of Malaya in Singapore and a PhD in Statistics from the London School of Economics (LSE).
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit to Bachelor of Science graduates whose first majors are in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, and who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA score of 3.0 (B) in their studies.
A maximum of two scholarships of HK$5,000 each shall be awarded annually.
