In June 2013, Mr C Y Lau donated a sum in response to the “Turn $1 to FIVE – Centenary Scholarship Fund” Campaign. The donation was used to set up scholarships in honour of Mr Lau’s parents, Mr Lau Chak Kwan and Ms Cheng So Hing, in support of needy students who are first in their families to attend universities, to engage in experiential learning activities during their studies at HKU.
The Scholarship shall be awarded to local undergraduate students from Year 2 or above from any faculties who have financial need and are successful applicants of the HKU’s First-in-the-Family Education Fund.
Selection Criteria:
There shall be up to four awards each year at the value of HK$20,000 each to support students partaking in the following learning activities, such as study tours and exchange programmes, accommodation in university residences, cultural immersion, language courses, internships, service learning/volunteering, etc.
The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other merit-based enrichment scholarships administered by the University. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with non-merit-based enrichment support.
Applicants are required to submit a learning plan outlining the nature and benefits of the activity.
