Tang Pak Kau Scholarships

On the Donor

In 2007, the late Mr Tang Chap In (鄧集賢) left a legacy to The University of Hong Kong in memory of his grandfather, Mr Tang Pak Kau (鄧伯裘). The Fund is to be set up as a perpetual endowment, "Tang Pak Kau Scholarship" (鄧伯裘獎學教育基金)in support of student scholarships and enrichment activities.

The late Mr Tang Pak Kau was a notable member of the Tang Clan based in Kat Hing Wai (吉慶圍) in Kam Tin of Yuen Long who helped get back the iron gate of the village that was taken by the British army during the occupation of the New Territories in 1899. The Tang Clan was one of the five biggest clans to take up residence in the New Territories.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarships shall be awarded as:

i) entrance scholarships to new undergraduate students of any faculties based on their academic performances at prevailing public examinations;

ii) enrichment scholarships to undergraduate students of any faculties to take part in learning activities such as but not limited to academic exchange, internships, field trips, experiential or service learning activities, overseas training, academic conferences, study tours and research fellowships.

iii) any other forms of merit-based student awards which are deemed necessary to meet future circumstances 

Value of Scholarships:

For (i), it shall cover HKU composition fee1 in full or partially and the Scholarship is not renewable;

For (ii), its value shall be up to HK$50,000 per award, subject to the duration and destination of the learning activity.

The number and exact value of scholarships are subject to merit of individual students provided that the total disbursement budget for (i) and (ii) does not exceed HK$400,000 each year.

Concurrent holding of awards:

For (i), the Scholarships may be held with any other scholarships administered by the University provided that the total amount of the scholarships received does not exceed the maximum amount stipulated by the Senate; and

For (ii), the Scholarship cannot be concurrently held with other merit-based scholarships administered by the University for the same activity but may be held concurrently with non-merit-based financial aids.
