Western Harbour Tunnel Scholarship

 In 2004, the Western Harbour Tunnel Company Limited (WHTCL) kindly established an 
annual full scholarship scheme for first year undergraduate students reading the degree of 
B.Eng in Civil Engineering or BEng in Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering) in the 
Department of Civil Engineering with effect from the 2005-06 academic year. In the 
academic year 2012-13, due to the new 4-year curriculum, the scholarship was awarded to a 
second year B.Eng. student in the Department of Civil Engineering.

In the academic year 2012-13, due to the new 4-year curriculum, the scholarship was awarded to a second year B.Eng. student in the Department of Civil Engineering. 

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded to a second year B.Eng. student in the Department of 
Civil Engineering on the basis of academic merit as shown in the Hong Kong Diploma of 
Secondary Education, and the examination results in the first year of study. 

The Scholarship shall be awarded to a second year B.Eng. student in the Department of Civil Engineering on the basis of academic merit as shown in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, and the examination results in the first year of study. 

One scholarship shall be awarded to a second year undergraduate student, of the value of the prevailing tuition fee for local undergraduate students and it shall be tenable for a maximum period of 3 academic years, with renewal being subject to satisfactory academic performance and continuation of studies in the BEng programme in the Department of Civil Engineering. If the Scholar fails to achieve grade C or above in the course “Transportation Engineering” or decides not to continue his/her BEng programme studies in the Department of Civil Engineering, the Scholarship shall not be renewed.

The Scholar shall be required to join an internship for a period of not less than 100 hours as arranged by the WHTCL during the Scholar’s second and third year of studies. If the Scholar fails to fulfill the summer internship requirement during his/her second and third year of studies, he/she will be deemed to voluntarily withdraw from the scholarship nomination and will not be eligible to receive the scholarship for that and subsequent year(s).

Scholars are expected to offer his/her services to the WHTCL after graduation as a first choice of preference for a period of not less than 3 years, subject to the availability of suitable vacancy and passing of the recruitment scrutiny by the WHTCL.
