In 2012, Ms Euphine Mak Yiu Fun, a former Medical Librarian at the University, generously donated to set up a scholarship in memory of her late father, Mr Mak Kai Hung, who was an early Chemistry graduate at HKU dring the pre-war period and a King Edward VII Scholar. The donation was submitted for matching under the Sixth Government Matching Scheme.
The scholarships will benefit students of the Department of Chemistry and foster learning through encouraging students in participating research work.
The Scholarship shall be awarded to a Chemistry major student studying the third year of the Bachelor of Science 4-year curriculum.
The Scholarship shall be made on the basis of academic merit (with GPA of 3.3 or above) as shown in the overall results of the examinations or assessments of the courses taken in the third year of the Bachelor of Science degree.
There shall be one award each year. The awardee shall carry out undergraduate research in a research group in the Department of Chemistry in the summer of the academic year.
