On the Donor

In 2014, Ms Doris Wong pledged a donation in support of student scholarships and bursaries in memory of her grandparents, Mr Mak Pak Chiu and Mrs Mak Soo Lai Hing. Partial donation will be designated for the "First-in-the-Family Education Fund".  The "Mak Pak Chiu Mak Soo Lai Hing Memorial Scholarships" shall be set up with the remaining funds for Medical students or Science students majoring in Environmental Science or Conservation. 

Purpose and Scope

I. First-in-the-Family Fund (FIFE Fund)- the disbursement of grant is subject to the eligibility criteria set forth by the FIFE Fund Steering Committee.

II. Mak Pak Chiu Mak Soo Lai Hing Memorial Scholarships

Four scholarships shall be awarded annually to worthy and deserving students who show demonstrated financial needs and academic merit in attending the University:

• Three students pursuing the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees in the second, third and fourth year of study, respectively.
• One final-year Science student pursuing the Bachelor of Science with a major in Enviornmental Science who carried out a research in conservation or environment-related topics as the final year/capstone project.

Selection criteria:

For MBBS students

• Academic merit (within top 5% of the class), and
• Financial need

For Enviornmental Science student

• Quality of the research project, and
• Financial need
