The late Professor Eric Lye Kum-Chew (黎錦超教授), visionary architect, educator and Renaissance intellectual made his mark on generations of architects as Chair Professor and Dean in HKU Faculty of Architecture. In October 2013, the Faculty held a Public Forum and Dinner to mark the tenth anniversary of his passing away.
In his honor, friends and family of Professor Lye, as well as staff, students and alumni of the Faculty donated generously as a remembrance of the man himself and his contributions to the eduation of architects. Proceeds from the dinner and donation received will go towards the establishment of the Eric Lye Memorial Travelling Scholarship which will be devoted to enriching the education and broader prospects of our students.
The Scholarship shall:
i) open to all full-time non-final year undergraduate and taught postgraudate and research postgraduate students across the Faculty's departments and divisions;
ii) be used to enable students to enrich their learning experience overseas (preferably in the United States) through a study tour, academic exchange, internship, or research etc.; and
iii) be awarded on the basis of applicants' academic merit, extra-curricular activities, financial need and the proposed travel plan.
