In 2015, the Swire Group in Hong Kong established a postgraduate scholarship in The University of Hong Kong (HKU) to provide further educational opportunities for senior officials in the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of The State Council, P. R. China (HKMAO).
One Scholarship shall be awarded annually to a civil servant from the HKMAO for studies in one of the following taught postgraduate programmes at HKU:
- Master of Common Law
- Master of Economics
- Master of Laws
- Master of Laws (Human Rights)
- Master of Laws (Arbitration and Dispute Resolution)
- Master of Laws in Technology and Intellectual Property Law
- Master of International and Public Affairs
- Master of Public Administration
The candidate needs to (i) satisfy the admission requirements (including English proficiency and education standards) as required by the chosen programme of study; and (ii) obtain an admission offer from the chosen programme.
The Scholarship shall be tenable for one academic year, usually beginning in September, covering the full cost of the scholar’s composition fees, HKU accommodation fees, monthly stipends and economy class air passages to and from Hong Kong at the beginning and end of the period of tenure.
The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other scholarships, teaching and/or research awards. The awardee is not allowed to engage in any paid jobs, excluding his/her appointment at HKMAO, inside and outside HKU during the term of Scholarship.
The awardee is required to reside in Hong Kong for the duration of the award and expected to return to the Chinese Mainland on completion of his/her studies at HKU.
