On the Donor
In 2017, a Hong Kong merchant (“the donor”) made an initial donation to establish an entrance scholarship for students from Nigeria to pursue undergraduate studies at HKU. The donor further donated subsequent sums in 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 to support the Scholarship. The donor has been doing business in Nigeria for many years and wishes to help develop the young talents there by enabling them to receive quality education at HKU and widen their exposure. The Scholarship shall be named in honour of the donor's father.
Purpose and Scope
One new Scholarship shall be awarded as an entrance scholarship to an outstanding student from Nigeria to pursue any undergraduate degree at The University of Hong Kong, on the basis of academic merit. Financial need shall also be taken into consideration.
The value of the Scholarship shall be set at HK$305,000 per year for new awardees admitted in academic year 2026-27 and thereafter. For the awardees admitted before the 2026-27 academic year, the Scholarship value shall remain at HK$282,000 per year.
The Scholarship shall be tenable throughout the normative study period (from four to six years, depending on the programme of study) subject to the awardees maintaining satisfactory academic performance in each academic year.
