Chin Ping-Chuen Memorial Scholarship in Earth Sciences
錢秉泉紀念地球科學獎學金

On the Donor

A respected meteorologist, the late Dr Chin Ping-Chuen (BSc 1950, PhD 1971), worked at the Hong Kong Observatory from the early 1950s until his retirement. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Science in 1950, Dr Chin later received his doctoral degree from the Department of Geography of HKU in 1971. His research and published papers in geography and geology laid a solid foundation for the local meteorological service. Dr Chin was also an Honorary Lecturer of the HKU Geography Department and an Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory.

In 2015, Dr Chin passed away and the Trustee of The Chin's Family Trust wished to establish a scholarship in memory of Dr Chin with a donation. It is hoped that the scholarship can support deserving Earth Scinces students in their participation in final year research projects to explore their research potential.
