Des Voeux Chambers Junior Scholarship

On the Donor

In 1999, the Middle Temple Society in Hong Kong agreed to establish a Scholarship scheme for LL.B. students with the following objectives. In February 2003, the title of the scholarship was changed to the "Des Voeux Chambers Junior Scholarship" due to the change in sponsorship. 
 
(a) To recognize and reward law students with top academic performance, all-round qualifications, and a strong interest in joining the Hong Kong Bar.
 
(b) To allow law students the opportunity to experience firsthand practice at the Hong Kong Bar through an extended mini- pupillage at Des Voeux Chambers.
 
(c) To help law students of the aforesaid calibre to decide whether they would like in due course to join the Hong Kong Bar.

(a) To recognize and reward law students with top academic performance, all-round qualifications, and a strong interest in joining the Hong Kong Bar.

(b) To allow law students the opportunity to experience firsthand practice at the Hong Kong Bar through an extended mini- pupillage at Des Voeux Chambers.

(c) To help law students of the aforesaid calibre to decide whether they would like in due course to join the Hong Kong Bar.

Purpose and Scope

Up to three Scholarships available for award annually to undergraduate law students, J.D. students and/or P.C.LL. students, on the basis of academic merit. Awardees will normally belong to the top 10 to 15 percent of their class.  Interest in the law, achievements in extra-curricular activities (such as mooting, sports and charity work), and the potential to become a leading legal practitioner will also be taken into account.

The Donor may invite awardees to attend an assessed moot at the end of their mini-pupillage.  Those who have demonstrated outstanding performance during their mini-pupillage and the assessed moot may be offered a full nine-month pupillage with Des Voeux Chambers, together with any necessary conditions as may be imposed by the Donor on a case-by-case basis.

Value of Award Comprise of a cash award of HK$30,000 and a 4-6 week mini-pupillage at Des Voeux Chambers.
