In 1990, Dr Hui Wai Haan (BA 1932, MSc 1954, LLD 1981), former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hong Kong until her retirement in 1973, established the “Hui Pun Hing Endowment Fund” in memory of his late father Mr Hui Pun Hing. The Endowment fund awards postgraduate scholarships in sciences (including medicine) and provides support for the Department of Chemistry and the University Libraries. The Hui Wai Haan Chair of Chemistry was also established in the same year.
The awards shall be awarded to new research postgraduate students (leading to the degree of PhD), who will undertake collaborativeresearch in Mainland China, in the Faculties of Dentistry, Engineering, Medicine and Science, with preference given to those pursuing research related to Chemistry in the event that the awardees are of equal academic standards.
The Fellowship shall provide the awardee with a cash award under the “University Postgraduate Fellowship” Scheme, and a subsidy covering departmental/supervisors' contribution, if any, to postgraduate scholarships (PGS) for Type B RPG places.
