Barrie Ho Architecture Travelling Scholarship

On the Donor

In December 2018, Mr. Barrie Ho MH, Founder and Director of BARRIE HO Architecture 
Interiors Ltd (BHA), who is also a distinguished alumnus of the Faculty, pledged to donate a 
sum of HK$200,000 to the Faculty of Architecture in the year of 2019 to establish a travel 
scholarship for students of the Faculty, for an initial period of two academic years.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship is intended to support students to enrich their overseas learning 
experience, through educational travel in the form of a study programme, a design studio 
or a class of no less than 2 weeks’ duration.

The Scholarship shall be made on the basis of applicants’ academic merit and the proposed travel plan. Applicants shall be expected to submit a 500 words proposal which outlines their travel itinerary in terms of expected dates of departure/arrival and places they plan to visit, their study plan during the travel period and their travel budget. Applicants should also explain the purpose of their learning activities and state the expected learning outcome. 

Shortlisted applicants shall be invited to an interview with members of the Selection Committee in the Faculty to give a presentation on the proposed travel plan. Applicants’ performance in the interview will also be considered in determining the final outcome of the Scholarship. 

Scholarship recipients shall be required to submit a report to the Dean of the Faculty within 2 weeks of completing their trips. 

Eight awards shall be made: 

a) Two awards, of the value of HK$19,240 each, shall be awarded to students studying in any year of the self-funded 3-year Master of Architecture (Design) programme; and

b) Six awards, of the value of HK$9,620 each, shall be awarded to undergraduate students in any year studying in each of the following UGC-funded programmes: 

  • Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies [BA(ArchStud)], 
  • Bachelor of Arts and Science in Design+ [BASc(Design+)], 
  • Bachelor of Science in Surveying [BSc(Surv)], 
  • Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies [BA(UrbanStud)], 
  • Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Studies [BA(LS)] and 
  • Bachelor of Arts in Conservation [BA(Conservation)].
