Shun Hing College, a residential college for both undergraduate and postgraduate 
students, is committed to building a vibrant and inclusive community of students 
and scholars. In view of the University’s policy to promote internationalisation, the 
College strives to serve as a hub for academic and cultural exchanges with leading 
international institutions. 
 
 
 
A portion of the annual interest of the Shun Hing College Endowment Fund 
generously donated by the Shun Hing Group, has been used to award Exchange 
Scholarships and Residential Scholarships since academic year 2015-16. In August 
2019, a new Residential Scholarship scheme designated for Sports Scholars

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall initially be awarded to undergraduate students who were 
admitted through the Sports Scholarship Programme (known as “Sports 
Scholars”) entering their second year of studies in academic year 2019-20. From 
academic year 2020-21 onwards, the Scholarship shall be open to non-first-year 
Sports Scholars (i.e., second year Sports Scholars or above). 
 
 
 
3. The Scholarship shall be awarded based on criteria including but not limited to 
the following: 
 A record of outstanding sports achievements in the previous academic year(s) 
 A record of the applicant’s contributions to university sports team in the 
previous academic year(s) 
 A reasonable level of academic performance in the previous academic year 
 A genuine financial need 
 Recommendation from coach and/or HKU sports team advisor 
 
 
 
4. The Scholarship shall cover the college fees for these students to reside at Shun 
Hing College for one year subject to the approval of the College’s Admission 
Committee under normal admission and re-admission procedures. 
5. There shall be up to two awards each year. 

The Scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate students who were admitted through the Sports Scholarship Scheme administered by the Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE) or the Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme administered by the Admissions Office (AO) of the Registry.  

The Scholarship shall be awarded mainly based on the following criteria, and secondarily on financial need: 

i. First year student(s) 

  • A record of outstanding sports achievements; and 
  • Satisfactory academic performance for admission to the University.

ii. Non-first year student(s) 

  • A record of outstanding sports achievements in the previous academic  year(s); 
  • A record of the applicant's contributions to university sports team in the previous academic year(s); and 
  • Satisfactory academic performance in the  previous academic year. 

The Scholarship shall normally cover the full or partial amount of College fees for these students to reside at Shun Hing College for one residential year.  

The number of awards made each year shall be subject to the budget amount approved for the purposes of this Scholarship by the Governance Committee of the Residential Colleges on an annual basis.
