Nascence Scholarship for Postgraduate Students in Architectural Studies, The
On the Donor
In December 2003, Mr. Peter K C Chan donated a total sum of HK$1,500,000 for the award
of postgraduate scholarships in architectural studies and visiting professorship(s) in
Architecture with effect from the academic year 2004-05. 3 to 4 scholarships shall be
awarded annually from the academic year 2004-05 to full-time postgraduate students who are
from mainland China and who have registered for the degree of MPhil, PhD, MLA, MUD,
MSc(Conservation), or MArch in the Department of Architecture.

Purpose and Scope
The Scholarship shall be awarded, on the basis of (i) academic merit, (ii) the
candidate’s research (in the case of research postgraduate students) and (iii) financial
need, to full-time postgraduate students who are studying for the degree of MPhil,
PhD, MLA, MArch, or MArch (Design) in the Department of Architecture.
3. The number of scholarship to be awarded and the exact value of each award shall be
determined by the Selection Committee, after considering the funding available (see
Administrative Arrangements for the Donation: document AR104/619). In any case,
the value of each scholarship shall not be less than HK$10,000 and the total
scholarship disbursement in any one year shall not exceed HK$180,000.
The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to full-time postgraduate students who are studying for the degree of MPhil, PhD, MLA, MArch or MArch (Design) in the Department of Architecture.
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of:
- academic merit,
- the candidate’s research (in the case of research postgraduate students) and
- financial need
The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with another Postgraduate Scholarship (in the case of research postgraduate students).
