HKU Scholarship for Future Leaders

 Students from economies in transition and developing economies often have 
to overcome additional challenges and obstacles in order to attain high academic 
achievements. These students continue to require significant support for their 
pursuit of higher education despite having attained excellent academic results. 
 
 
 
 In recognition of the additional challenges faced and to be overcome by these 
students, and to encourage serious consideration of Hong Kong as a study 
destination, special scheme of scholarship is established to allow for greater 
flexibility in considering the award of scholarships to these disadvantaged 
students.

In recognition of the additional challenges faced and to be overcome by these students, and to encourage serious consideration of Hong Kong as a study destination, special scheme of scholarship is established to allow for greater flexibility in considering the award of scholarships to these disadvantaged students. 

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded each year to the first-year undergraduate 
students who are nationals of countries that are classified as economies in 
transition or developing economies by the United Nations, based on: 
(a) academic achievement; 
(b) nature of the student’s involvement in the local community; 
(c) leadership abilities; 
(d) interview performance; and 
(e) nature of personal experiences on challenges and access to education.

The Scholarship shall be awarded each year to the first-year non-local full-time undergraduate students on the basis of: 

  • academic achievement; 
  • nature of the student’s involvement in the local community; 
  • leadership abilities; 
  • interview performance; and 
  • nature of personal experiences on challenges and access to education.

Preference shall be given to students from countries that are classified as economies in transition or developing economies by the United Nations. 

Value of Award At least cover the full tuition fee, with the exact value to be determined
