HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology

In 2020, the Department of Computer Science under the Faculty of Engineering in 
The University of Hong Kong established the HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial 
Technology supported by the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community 
Foundation (SCF) for local students admitted to the BASc(FinTech)1, MSc(FTDA)2, and 
MSc(CompSc)[Financial Computing Stream]3 programmes of the Department. 
 
 

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited are proud to jointly announce the establishment of The University of Hong Kong – Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation FinTech Academy (HKU-SCF FinTech Academy) with generous support from the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation (SCF).

With the HKU-SCF FinTech Academy in place, HKU will nurture talents through the recently launched Bachelor’s degree in Financial Technology [(BASc (FinTech)] and a new interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Financial Technology in 2021. This will increase the annual intake to meet the demands of students and industry.

HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology shall support local students admitted to the BASc(FinTech), MSc(FTDA), and MSc(CompSc)[Financial Computing Stream] programmes of the Department of Computer Science.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded annually under the following categories:

(A) For undergraduate students:

The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to local students admitted to the 
BASc(FinTech) programme on the basis of academic merit as shown in the 
results of the relevant public examinations. If necessary, applicants may be 
invited for interviews. 
  • The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to local students admitted to the BASc(FinTech) programme on the basis of academic merit as shown in the results of the relevant public examinations. If necessary, applicants may be invited for interviews. 
  • Up to eight scholarships (including new and renewed awards) shall be awarded each year. The value of each Scholarship shall be HK$50,000. The exact number of scholarships to be offered each year shall be determined by the Selection Committee.
  • At any time, up to 2 scholarships can be made tenable for the normative period of study, subject to satisfactory academic performance being maintained (minimum CGPA 3.0 or above), and consideration shall also be given to the public examinations results for admission to the programme. The remaining scholarship places shall be tenable for one year only.
 
For the academic year 2021/22, prospective BASc(FinTech) students can apply for the HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology.  The deadline for application is 30 Jun 2021 (See application details)
 
 
(A) For postgraduate students:
  • The Scholarship shall be awarded annually, on the basis of academic merit, to full-time or part-time local students holding a Bachelor’s degree and admitted to the MSc(FTDA) or the MSc(CompSc) [Financial Computing Stream] programme. If necessary, applicants may be invited for interviews. 
  • Up to five scholarships shall be awarded each year. The value of each Scholarship shall be HK$60,000. The exact number of scholarships to be offered each year shall be determined by the Selection Committee. 
  • The Scholarship shall be tenable for one year.
  • The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other scholarships administered by the Department of Computer Science.
