HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship

Since 1965, HSBC has been supporting Hong Kong youth through various scholarship schemes.  As of 2020, the Bank has granted more than HKD230 million to the HSBC Scholars.

HSBC today launched its HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship
to support Hong Kong undergraduate students with career dreams of working in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).  For the next three academic years, the Bank will grant up to HKD8 million in scholarship funds to 100 students as part of its wider effort to develop talent in this region.

In December 2020, HSBC launched the HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship to support Hong Kong undergraduate students with career dreams of working in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).  For the next three academic years, the Bank will grant up to HKD8 million in scholarship funds to 100 students as part of its wider effort to develop talent in this region.

Purpose and Scope

Up to 100 students from across Hong Kong are to be identified in the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 academic years to receive a  scholarship award of HKD80,000 each which is intended for uses that help realise the awardees’ career plan in GBA. Awardees will also be offered:

(a) Membership in an extensive network of past, current and future recipients of HSBC-funded programmes; as well as a community of like-minded young professionals, providing continuous support and networking opportunities

(b) Mentorship, internship and other real-life learning opportunities offered by GBA-active businesses

(c) Dedicated learning opportunities and resources that aim to develop their preparedness for a GBA-specific career plan.

 

Eligibility

Full-time undergraduate students, studying any discipline, who meet the following requirements:

(a) Hong Kong permanent residents with the right of abode in Hong Kong;

(b) Minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) score of 3.0 (or top 15% of class/department) in the first semester of the current academic year; and

(c) Commitment to pursue employment, entrepreneurship or advanced academic opportunities in GBA.


Selection criteria

(a) A realistic and an ambitious plan for a long-term career in GBA;

(b) An in-depth understanding of skills and knowledge required to achieve the career plan;

(c) Candidates with a focus on strategic sectors (e.g. digital, innovation and technology, green energy) will be given an advantage;

(d) Future leaders who demonstrate all-roundedness;

(e) Commitment to be an active member of a community of HSBC Scholars.

 

Awardees' Obligations

Awardees are required to submit a report to reflect on their personal growth and learning journey towards their GBA aspiration and be an active member of a community of HSBC Scholars.

Interviews will be held some time in March 2024
