In March 2021, Ms Louisa Chen made a donation to set up the Christina Chan Mui Memorial Scholarship for Medical Students in memory of her mother. The Scholarship was established to provide due recognition to students of a high academic calibre who have been admitted to the undergraduate programmes offered by the Medical Faculty.
Ms Christina Chan came to Hong Kong in the early 1960s and endeavoured to learn different skills to equip herself for various types of work. With perseverance and diligence, she successfully set up her own manufacturing business. It was her belief: “If you don’t know how or why, find out and learn!”, that drove her daughter to set up a scholarship to encourage young people.
The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to local students of any full-time undergraduate programmes under the Medical Faculty on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
The value of each scholarship shall be in the range of HK$10,000 – HK$50,000. The exact value and number of scholarships awarded each year shall be determined by the Selection Committee.
