Lo Wai Hoi Memorial Scholarship

On the Donor

In March 2021, Dr. Yip Ka Chee (MBBS 1976) made a donation of HK$250,000 for the
establishment of a new scholarship in the LKS Faculty of Medicine (“Medical Faculty”), in memory
of his dear friend, Dr. Lo Wai Hoi (MBBS 1958). The late Dr. Lo was the former Medical
Superintendent (equivalent to Hospital Chief Executive) of Castle Peak Hospital in 1972-74 and the
Consultant Psychiatrist-in-Charge of the Government Mental Health Service in 1970s–80s. He
was instrumental in the development of psychiatric service in Hong Kong. It is hoped that the
Scholarship can support deserving and needy medical students to gain access to the university
education, and receive professional trainings to become medical doctors.

Purpose and Scope

Two scholarships shall be awarded annually to full-time MBBS students on the basis of
academic merit. Financial need may also be taken into consideration.
