Des Voeux Chambers Undergraduate Scholarship

On the Donor

In 2016, Des Voeux Chambers (“donor”) agreed to donate a sum of HK$250,000 to the 
Faculty of Law for the establishment of an annual essay prize for its students1.  In June 
2021, the Donor pledged a further sum of HK$200,000 to convert the Prize into the “Des 
Voeux Chambers Undergraduate Scholarship” (“the Scholarship”) for undergraduate 
law students.

Purpose and Scope

A maximum of eight scholarships shall be awarded each year to final year 

A maximum of eight scholarships shall be awarded each year to final year undergraduate law students based on the following criteria: 

(i) academic merit as shown in the average grades of P.C.LL. prerequisite courses, or equivalent, namely:

  • Law of Contract I & II;
  • Law of Tort I & II;
  • The legal system of HKSAR;
  • Constitutional Law;
  • Criminal Law I & II;
  • Commercial Law;
  • Land Law I & II;
  • Business associations;
  • Equity and Trusts I & II;
  • Evidence I; and
  • Land Law III; 

(ii) financial need; and 

(iii) performance at the selection interview. 

The Scholarship may also include a three-week mini-pupillage to be offered at the donor’s discretion, which the awardee(s) have to complete before receiving the Scholarship.
