In 2005, Dr. Tang Sek Ying, a medical doctor, donated a sum of to establish a Scholarship in honour of his patients from whom he had learned so much. The first awards were made in the academic year 2005-06. Over the years, Dr Tang has kindly injected further donations, in 2019, to support the continuation of the Scholarship.
Purpose and Scope
The Scholarship shall be awarded as follows:
(i) Two scholarships shall be available biennially to full-time students of the MSocSc
or PsyD in Educational Psychology Programmes or the PhD (specialization in
Educational Psychology) Programme (total 2 places) and
(ii) Two scholarships shall be available annually to full-time students of the MSocSc
or PsyD in Clinical Psychology Programmes or the PhD (specialization in Clinical
Psychology) Programme (total 2 places).
3. The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of outstanding performance in coursework
and practicum related to the aforementioned programmes, paid or volunteer work
experience in serving underprivileged members of the Hong Kong community, and future
plans to help such individuals.
4. The Scholarship shall be of a total value of HK$25,000 each and it shall be used to partially
fund the scholars’ overseas training attachment in clinical and educational psychology. For
each scholarship, up to HK$5,000 will be earmarked for the overseas trainer’s honorarium,
and the balance shall be paid to the scholar to cover the expenses incurred for airfare,
accommodation, and meal expenses applicable for the overseas attachment. The overseas
training attachments will be arranged by the scholar, taking into account the input of
teaching staff in the Programmes in Education Psychology and Clinical Psychology.
Outstanding applications for non-overseas training and activities that prepare the scholar
to better serve the Hong Kong community will also be considered and funded at the
discretion of the Selection Committee.
