Liu Ming-Chit Scholarship in Mathematics

On the Donor

In 2005, the late Professor M C Liu, Professor of Mathematics from 1990 to 1996 and Chair of Mathematics from 1996 to 2000, made a donation for the establishment of the Liu Ming-Chit Prize in Mathematics to be awarded annually from the academic year 2005-06. In March 2023, after the passing away of Professor Liu, the wife of Professor Liu pledged a donation to further support the deserving Mathematics students. Following the wishes of Mrs Liu, the Prize shall be converted into a Scholarship and the award amount was increased from HK$1,500 to HK$10,000 each.

Purpose and Scope

Up to two scholarships shall be awarded annually to students in the Faculty of Science who are major in Mathematics and have completed their second or third year of studies, on the basis of academic performance in Mathematics as shown in the latest examination results.
