HKU TECHNOVATION Scholarship

The Hong Kong Government, with its strong commitment to fostering innovation and technology (I&T), rolled out the Hong Kong I&T Development Blueprint in 2022. This strategic plan aims to enhance the I&T ecosystem, promote new industrialization, and integrate Hong Kong into the global I&T landscape. In 2023, the Chief Executive reinforced this commitment in his annual policy address. The government has since launched several initiatives to implement the blueprint. To ride on these efforts, The HKU “TECHNOVATION” Scholarship is proposed to enable the University to (i) attract talented undergraduate students and prepare them to become future leaders in the I&T sector, and (ii) support the Hong Kong government's vision of driving economic growth and social progress through innovation and technology.

Purpose and Scope

The Scholarship shall be awarded each year to first-year undergraduate students enrolled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related degree programmes based on: 

1. academic achievement, particularly in STEM subjects;
2. demonstrated innovation and leadership skills, evident through past projects, inventions, or leadership roles in academic or extracurricular activities;
3. performance in an interview, where commitment to the I&T sector shall be assessed;
4. potential for social impact, assessed through the candidate's vision for using technology to improve society.
