In 2024, the International Scholarship for Taught Postgraduate Students in the Department of Urban Planning
and Design was established to attract outstanding international students (i.e. excluding Hong Kong and
Mainland China) to apply for admission to the self-funded taught postgraduate programmes offered by the
Department of Urban Planning and Design.
The Scholarship shall be awarded annually as an entrance scholarship to deserving international students
(i.e. excluding Hong Kong and Mainland China) who have been offered admission into the programme,
based on:
a) academic merit at the time of admission (e.g. academic/professional achievements);
b) performance at admission interview; and
c) personal statement.
Each taught postgraduate programme shall award a maximum of total value equivalent to two full
Scholarships annually, encompassing both “International Scholarship for Taught Postgraduate
Studies in the Department of Urban Planning and Design” and “Merit-based Scholarship for Taught
Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Urban Planning and Design”. These scholarships may include
multiple scholarships for partial funding of the composition fee of the respective taught postgraduate
programme. The value of each scholarship shall be determined by the Selection Committee based on the
academic merit of eligible students and the funding available at the time.
The value of each full Scholarship shall cover the composition fee of the respective taught postgraduate programme, resulting in a waiver of the composition fee for the awardee. If there are compulsory field trips or programme-related expenses, the funding may be considered for coverage at the discretion of the Selection Committee.
