In 2025, the School of Chinese of the Faculty of Arts established a Scholarship for graduates
of the Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies (MACHS) Programme to recognise the
outstanding achievements of students and encourage their pursuit of further study.
One scholarship shall be awarded each year to a graduate of the MACHS Programme who
has demonstrated exceptional academic merit by obtaining a distinction in MACHS, as well
as a first class honours degree or a minimum overall average score of 87, or a CGPA with
a minimum of 3.60 in the undergraduate studies of Chinese Historical Studies.
The Scholarship shall be awarded to an awardee on a monthly basis of PhD candidature at
HKU. The scholarship value shall be equivalent to the Postgraduate Scholarship of
the Graduate School at HKU which is subject to review by the University from time to time.
The Scholarship shall be tenable for the normative period of study, subject to satisfactory
academic performance being maintained, compliance with the conditions outlined in the
Regulations Governing Postgraduate Scholarships of the Graduate School at HKU, and a
satisfactory annual review by the MACHS Management Committee based on the awardee’s
academic progress and engagement in departmental activities.
