Yi Shi Postgraduate Scholarship for Frontier Research

On the Donor

In June 2025, Mr Yi Shi, Angel Investor, AI/Tech Entrepreneur and Founder of FlashIntel, an applied research lab based in San Francisco, pledged a donation to establish a Scholarship to support research postgraduate students at the School of Computing and Data Science with outstanding academic performance. Mr Shi is a tech professional with a keen interest in technology and innovation, and he aims to support emerging STEM talent in pursuing research with global relevance and impact.

Purpose and Scope

Two scholarships shall be awarded annually to students enrolled in the Research Postgraduate Programme under the School of Computing and Data Science with one scholarship designated for the field of study in Statistics and the other for the field of study in Actuarial Science.

The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit including but not limited to research output, the number of published research papers, quality of research, and social impact of the research papers.
