In 2026, Sau Ching Foundation Limited, through Dr Christopher Cheng and Professor Brian Wong, pledged to establish the Sau Ching Foundation Scholarship for Student Exchange to support and facilitate undergraduate student exchange programmes between The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and its partner universities in South and Southeast Asia. The primary objective of the Scholarship is to strengthen academic, cultural, and regional ties between Hong Kong and South and Southeast Asia by providing students from HKU and its partner institutions with valuable opportunities for cross-cultural engagement and knowledge exchange, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the regions.
The Scholarship shall support undergraduate students from any year of study and any programme to take part in exchange programmes between HKU and its partner universities in South and Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to institutions in Singapore, India, and Malaysia, where exchange partnerships are available.
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Awardees shall demonstrate a strong commitment to actively participating in extracurricular activities, projects, or events within the host university community during the exchange period. Financial need may also be taken into consideration.
Up to eight scholarships shall be awarded each year, comprising four outgoing exchange scholarships for HKU students to study at partner universities in South or Southeast Asia, and four incoming exchange scholarships for students from partner universities in South or Southeast Asia to study at HKU.
The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other merit-based enrichment scholarships administered by the University for the same activity. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with non-merit-based financial aids.
