Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships, Sir

The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund was established in 1987 to commemorate the former late Governor Sir Edward Youde. The purpose of the Scholarships aims at recognising and encouraging academic achievements of full-time undergraduate students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong).

Purpose and Scope

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should-

  1. have the right of abode or the right to land in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
  2. have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years as at September 1, 2026;
  3. be registered full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students undertaking University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded/ publicly-funded courses in the 2026-27 academic year; and
  4. not be engaged in full-time employment.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected by the Council on the basis of the following - 

  1. standards of academic achievements and intellectual qualities;
  2. leadership qualities as demonstrated in their involvement in extracurricular activities and/ or community services;
  3. proficiency in the language in which the research is undertaken;
  4. relevance of the courses which the candidates undertake as to their contribution to Hong Kong; and
  5. other personal qualities and potentials, including expected future contribution to Hong Kong.

The candidate is required to provide an account of, in not more than 500 words, preferably in English, the reasons for his/ her undertaking the course of his/ her current studies.

Selected candidates will be invited to attend an interview to be held tentatively in late November/ December 2026 in Hong Kong.

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship for Disabled Students
A quota has been reserved for students with disabilities and special educational needs, including physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech and language impairment, attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorders, specific learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual developmental disorder and/ or mental illness.
