University of Hong Kong - United World College Diversity Scholarship, The

On the Donor

Diversity and inclusion are essential components of HKU’s core values, contributing to its leadership in the region as well as its educational excellence. Acknowledging the challenges brought by the dynamic global landscape, the University endeavours to create a climate that supports the diverse learning experiences and multiple identities valued at HKU.

HKU’s links to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) are well known through research, teacher training, and student admission over the years. The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD) was part of the United World Colleges (UWC) system long before it gained wider international recognition. The UWC schools are known for their diversity (originally requiring that 50% of enrolled students come from outside their home territory) and for their community integration. Their educational goals and learning environments are the closest to those that HKU promotes. Many of the UWCs are in parts of the world that are difficult for the University to reach directly, so an initiative to promote HKU in these schools is highly desirable.

The HKU-UWC Diversity Scholarship is a joint initiative by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and United World Colleges (UWCs), established to provide opportunities for graduates of UWCs, who are in financial need to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at HKU. Through this scheme, HKU supports the UWC mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. We hope to enrich global education at HKU and create a more internationally oriented undergraduate experience for all HKU students.
